What is Periodontitis (PD)?
The bacterial flora prevalent in the mouth causes PD. It wreaks havoc on and kills the tissues that support the teeth (gums, periodontal ligament and bone).
What are the symptoms of PD?
The signs of PD are obvious to a professional but might be difficult for the patient to notice at first.Gum inflammation, bleeding while brushing or flossing, poor breath, receding gums, and tooth movement are all indications. If you or a family member or acquaintance notice any of these symptoms, do not hesitate to visit a periodontology specialist.
What causes PD, and what variables contribute to its onset?
The emergence of PD is caused by an increase in bacterial flora in the mouth, as well as a hereditary susceptibility to the illness.Other variables such as smoking, poor or inadequate dental hygiene, hormonal changes, systemic disorders such as diabetes, certain drugs, and so on might exacerbate the condition.
What Are The Best Measures For Preventing The Development Of PD?
The greatest strategy to avoid periodontal disease is to practice proper dental hygiene at home. Brush your teeth at least twice a day. It is also critical to floss on a regular basis and to see your dentist on a regular basis.
Can A Link Be Found Between Gum Disease And Heart Disease?
There are multiple convincing research findings revealing a possible relationship between heart disease and gum disease, however there is no conclusive confirmation of this. If you have or are at risk for heart disease, be careful to tell your periodontist since they may have further information for you on the subject.

Why Are Gums Receding?
Gums can generally recede for two main reasons. The first of these is recessions that occur as a result of untreated gum disease and its progression. The other reason may occur as a result of incorrect/excessive/hard brushing in individuals who pay more attention to oral care. In such patients, gingival recession can often be followed by conditions such as wear and sensitivity in the teeth. If necessary in the treatment of gingival recessions, surgery can be performed, and soft tissue grafts can be applied.
Is gum treatment (periodontal) treatment painful?
Since local anesthesia is applied during the procedures, pain is not experienced. Temporary tingling may occur as a result of some procedures. The reason for the tingling is the removal of tartar on the root surfaces that becomes visible due to the gingival recession.

Why is Teeth Cleaning Important?
Oral hygiene affects our entire physical health. Our eating and drinking habits and daily oral hygiene practices are very important.
A study conducted in the United States shows that individuals who pay more attention to their oral and dental health and have regular tooth brushing habits are less likely to have Alzheimer’s and dementia (dementia) in later ages.
How does the tartar occur?
The colorless formation that occurs on the tooth surface, left by the nutrients and caused by the accumulation of bacteria, is called a bacterial plaque. Bacterial plaque starts to form 4-6 hours after eating if the teeth are not brushed. If we do not acquire the habit of proper tooth brushing, bacterial plaque turns into tartar over time. Tartar is a solid and a hard structure. The accumulation on the tooth surface increases over time, preventing the gums from remaining healthy. The gums become bleeding, that is, inflamed.
Tartar is particularly evident on the inner surface of the lower incisors as this area is the most difficult to clean and the most overlooked.
When tartar stays on the tooth surface for a long time, it affects all gum health, causing serious problems that can progress to tooth decay, inflammation and bone loss.
How is a dental tartar cleaning (scaling) performed?
Once the tartar has formed and settled on the tooth surface, it can only be removed with the intervention of a dentist. This process is called tartar cleaning or scaling. Tartar cleaning can be repeated twice a year during your routine dental check-ups.
Does scaling damage the teeth?
No, it doesn’t. The tools used do not cause any damage to the tooth surface.
What is curettage?
Inadequate oral hygiene can cause tooth tartar to occur, as well as opening on the root surfaces in some areas or in all of the teeth, i.e. gingival recession and bone resorption. In this case, since scaling will not be sufficient, a deeper cleaning, the “curettage” treatment is performed in order to clean the root surfaces as well.

I would like to share my views after about 3 months of treatment. First, I researched many countries and spoke to many clinics.
The clinic we went to for my fiancée's wisdom tooth extraction was so hygienic and sterilized, similar to the Covid days. The staff welcomed us with smiling faces, and the attention of the employees & the workmanship of the doctors were all perfect. I really recommend this dental clinic for anyone who wants dental care.
We started our dental treatment with Mr. Çağkan last week and it was completed today. This man is simply professional and friendly ! I would recommend a very successful dentist like him, along with his friendliness and sincerity to everyone.
I went there for a Wisdom tooth extraction and a root canal treatment. I would like to thank all Optimum Oral and Dental Health Center employees, especially Dr. Çağkan and Ms. Seren, for their high interest in my case and concern about my dental health. It is a super hygienic dental care center. Wishing them the best of luck !
