Sedation is used as a solution to the fear, anxiety and panic attacks that patients experience during their dental treatment. It is also a useful gas in eliminating reflexes such as nausea and vomiting reflexes that occur during a dental treatment.
It can be used safely in both pediatric and adult patients. It has absolutely no side effects. Conscious sedation (nitrogen oxide gas) should never be confused with general anesthesia. It does not cause fainting or loss of memory during the treatment. It only provides relief thus the fears disappear. Communication is established with the patient during the procedure.
The patient is never exposed to other tranquilizers or narcotic drugs during the procedure. It is safer than all tranquilizers and general anesthesia. The effect disappears as soon as the inhalation of the gas is stopped, and the person can safely and comfortably go home and drive by herself/himself.
